So we bought a house today....

Yep, we bought a house today. This lovely home has been a bachelor pad for years and needs a lot of TLC. The owner hasn't been able to care for it the way he wants to so sold it to us for very little. We can't move in for about 4-6 months while the place is completely overhauled. It needs the foundation fixed up, the roof replaced, walls and ceilings restructured and then the cosmetic fun. We are excited to pick out carpet, lighting fixtures and paint. I am excited to plant flowers in the front of the house and a little garden in the back.

The house was built in 1916 and is one of the oldest homes here in town. It has all the original wood work in the home. As you can tell the house needs a lot of love and creativity. It will be fun to get some personality in and decorate it up.

I LOVE the stairs and am excited they are still in such good condition.

I do have one question for my readers....What color should we paint the outside of the house? We have until spring to decide. It will be one of the last things done, but just curious what you think we should paint the house...Sierra says Pink, what do you think?

I'm BACK!!!!

Hi ladies! (if anyone reads this at all) I'm excited to announce that I have SUCCESSFULLY finished 2 Big projects! I have about 5 other projects I'm working on, it's just hard to get them done since we don't have a craft store in town. I have to be REALLY innovative and research my options. I have learned a LOT and it has been so much fun! So, let me show you what I've done! First I had this OLD dresser. I didn't take a before picture (I forget so often!) But...I knew we got it as a wedding present 7.5 years ago and it came from Wal-Mart. So off to Walmart.com I went to find a picture. Here is what it looked like 7.5 years ago before 3 kids and 5 moves. (Thank you Walmart.com for not suing me for using a picture that isn't mine).

It was starting to fall apart and Wayne and I have talked about throwing it out for YEARS. That is until I started reading Becca's Blog HERE and getting fabulous ideas about refurbishing! I LOVE IT! Here is the dresser after!

I re-tightened everything. Put some shelving in the inside and made a cute little unit for my soon to be born girl's room. (sorry the picture isn't that great. My camera gave out so all the pictures are off my cell phone...which also isn't great).

Then I went to a garage sale. LOVE garage sales! I saw this old yucky changing table and didn't even stop to think much of it. I've had 3 other kids without a changing table why would I need one now. Especially this nasty looking one. My husband pointed it out and I rolled my eyes like..."sure honey, You want that disgusting piece of junk in our house?" But THEN.....My friend Jess said, "now what would Becca do?" (being Becca over at Blue Cricket Design) So I took a closer look and thought, sure I'll try something with it. What could it hurt? So home it went with us. Here is a picture of it before. (again, sorry bad picture...cell phone camera).

It had this AWFUL plastic cover all over it that was torn and stained. I hummed and hawed for a few days as to what to do with that. I wanted to buy a staple gun and just staple new fabric all over it, but I really didn't want to spend a lot of money (since we're buying a house...(that post soon to come). Plus, if I went the staple gun way I'd have to do a LOT of sewing and I'd need to buy a rivet gun and remove an old rivet and it would have just been a bigger pain since I don't have those tools. BUT then it his me...MOD PODGE! You can mod podge ANYTHING!!!!!! I tore out all that nasty old stuff and mod podged some beauty back into the changing table. I also had to take the whole thing apart and spray paint on a new color. Can I just tell you I fell in LOVE with Fusion Plastic spray paint! It works SO well and dries SO fast and isn't sticky AT ALL! I'm sold and will use it for most if not all of my projects! Here are a few pictures of the after project...

I also sewed this removable cover onto the old nasty changing pad. Isn't is so much better?
Old Changing pad....

New Changing pad....

And the whole thing folds up into a nice small space (which is an added bonus for those with small homes!)

Now...if this baby turns out to be a Boy....I'm going to be one UNHAPPY crafter!!!!!

On another note.....

So I haven't posted ANYTHING for this month's challenge...and there a good excuse....I've been lazy! : ) Actually a LOT has been going on this month and I've been super busy. First my camera broke...so that's a good excuse right there, then I got a camera and my internet was down for a few days. Then I went out of town to my good friends wedding, so I was busy with that. (but while gone I got to see the fabulous Stephanie who inspired me to start this blog...and yes she's as fabulous in real life as her blog makes her seem!) So here I am with only a week left in the month and I'm still not going to do the challenge : P Sorry. I may post stuff latter this week, but I have a VERY important question to ask the crafty bloggers out there who may stumble upon my blog. We got approved for a home loan that needs a LOT of TLC and work. Most of it we are contracting out, but then there is the decorating part : D That will be a lot of fun. I have a few ideas but need some more. I bought these for my girls room. Well I didn't buy the butterfly shelves, but the other two items I did buy. I love the bright fun colors of the Dream Wall world. (and of course the sparkels, even though you can't see it in the pictures).

So my question for inspiring crafty women out there is what else? What color do I paint the room? I'm not sure I want to go with the whole room butterfly theme. I also have these that will go in the girls' room, I but everything else I can do away with.

They are almost 3 and 5. I want something that will last a few years (like 5) where I don't have to spend a ton of money and can easily change designs as the girls get older. So what thoughts/ideas do you have?

August 2009 Challenge

Copied from Stephanie's Blog Here. Come Join the Fun!

August 2009 Challenge

This month's challenge (should you choose to accept it) is to get creative with your camera! Each weekday, follow this outline of what to post about:

My Home Monday:
Post a picture of something in or around your home. Your favorite room, your favorite piece of art, your sleeping kids, your new coffee table- whatever!!!

Take 2 Tuesday:
Post a before and after picture! A picture of your feet before and after a pedicure, a picture of your messy house and then what it looks like clean, a picture of a room makeover or furniture re-do... anything goes!

What's Outside Wednesday:
Get your butt outside (even in the insane heat!) and snap a picture of something great! Your garden, your kids at the pool, the sunset or sunrise... whatever you can come up with!

This is Me Thursday:
Take a picture of yourself. Seriously, reach your hand out in front of you and snap a picture of yourself- or get your kids to take it of you. Other people can be in the picture with you, just make sure you are in the picture somewhere.

Favorite Friday:
Show off something you love! Your favorite shirt, your favorite perfume, your favorite movie... take a picture of your favorite anything and tell us why you love it!

While procrastinating

So while procrastinating my challenge this week I decided to get crafty. Here are a few projects I've been working on....

Before...an old piece of wood I've almost thrown away ten times.

Add some paint and mod podge on some old Valentines day cards with some lettering and of course glitter and you get.....

I'm also going to add some ribbon to the back and then hang it on the girls' door.

Take an old dress that's too small....
(as a side note, I am terrible at taking before pictures! I remembered after this one had already been cut apart. You get the idea of the before picture though!)

Snip a little here, sew a little there and you get....

There's enough material to make another one as well. I'm really enjoying this craftiness that has happened all of a sudden. I'm hoping it's not just some weird pregnancy thing that will go away after having the baby!
